Determining Relevance: Trust your gut when it comes to web 2.0

SEO isn’t an option for small businesses today. When a potential customer searches for your product or service and you’re competitors show up higher than your site then you might as well be invisible. When approaching people and companies for backlinks, keep in mind that you’ll need to offer them/their readers some kind of benefit/value along with your link – an exclusive offer or discount. If you’re approaching your content marketing from a creative perspective, your content will never be the same as another. But how do you get strangers to visit your site before they know anything about your business? Google is pretty good at understanding the general context of a site’s content.

Determining Relevance: Trust your gut when it comes to web 2.0

One feature that many people seem afraid to utilise in their blog posts tends to be headings. Back in 2011, Google rolled out an update to their algorithm by the name of “Google Panda.” Panda caused an upheaval in the SEO world, and many of the practices that emerged as a result are still considered standards for SEOs today. Keyword stuffing is a strategy that shouldn't be used by any modern business looking to improve their search ranking. Saying your prayer before going to bed, in the hopes that Forbes or the Washington Post will link to you, won’t get you anywhere. Semantic search attempts to improve accuracy of search engine results by understanding the user intent and context of the terms as they are used in a query (1).

Should more importance be given to backlinks for search marketing?

One of the biggest mistakes marketers make when redesigning
websites is that they change their site architecture (create new
pages to replace old ones) and do away with old website pages
that they no longer want to include in their site. These “abandoned”
pages might rank in search engine results pages or may have
backlinks. There’s dozens of factors that go into links, but generally speaking, if your website attracts a lot of links from high quality sites, you will rank higher. Links with over optimized anchor text in articles or press releases distributed on other sites. Most SEO consultants are looking to build backlinks. Your online presence goes way beyond your site. The problem is that we tend to forget how our online footprint may extend to all the different platforms we may try out at some point and then abandon. Share your good posts. Educate those in your circle. Solve their problem and encourage them to leave a comment on your campaign.

So lets talk about backlinks and its importance to digital marketing

We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "If you choose the wrong keyphrases to use on your website, for example,
you are likely to expend a good deal of precious time, energy, and money
on activities that will bring you scant return." While there are dozens of strategies that can help you achieve long-term SEO results, these tactics will produce the best and longest lasting impact for your business or brand. While you can’t focus only on these strategies (you still need to dedicate resources to the dozens of other SEO strategies), these are the ones to focus most of your energy on. Content curation is a very good content marketing tactic. If you want your website to rank well and stay penalty-free, building new links is not enough. You need to take care of your backlink profile and disavow all the spammy links. If you want your audience to grow, check the analytics of your blog regularly. What articles are the ones that people seem to read the most?

The infamy behind dynamic pages

Customers today are on mobile for a large part of their digital experience. More searches today take place on mobile. Compared to desktop, mobile devices now account for 65 percent of all digital time spent. All content produced should serve the needs of customers on these devices through responsive web design, fast mobile load times, page navigation and layouts that reflect the needs of mobile users. If you optimize your meta descriptions with clear and attractive extracts on what potential visitors can find on your site, it becomes easier for them to see if the information they’re looking for is on that page. If you're anything like me, then you're looking to understand why certain things work the way they do. Avoid elements that annoy visitors. You might think that a cool pop-up will make people sign up for your great e-book, but that popup might just as easily make them surf away from your site altogether. Keep in mind, when a searcher goes to your site, then quickly clicks the back button and chooses another result; Google and Bing are not looking kindly at you. It seems like content should be engineered for an outcome. If you just start with an article and then ask yourself how to get traction to this everywhere, that doesn’t always work.

Be mindful of rankings

From a quality page point of view, duplicate content is a low-quality indicator. Boilerplate text is another low-quality indicator. Did you know that the location of your provider’s servers, at the time of
writing, can make a big impact on your search engine rankings in local
varieties of Google? Content needs to play a part in search engine strategy, too. The use of content on a website is powerful because it impacts search engine results while forming relationships with audiences. Publishing pages that are too short is a mistake that webmasters often make, especially those who want to better their search engine rankings and SEO value. Advertising is a very important part of running any type of business.
